How to prepare

How to prepare for IELTS General Training

01
Plan your study time
Budget roughly 3–6 months of daily immersion for IELTS General Training. Block fixed daily sessions rather than occasional long ones — spaced, consistent practice retains far better than cramming.
02
Start with the official material
Work from the official syllabus or study guide first so you know exactly what is in scope and how each area is weighted. The "Official source" block below links to the exam authority.
03
Build a practice cadence
Drill your weakest topics two to three times a week using focused practice, then sit one full, timed mock each week. Review every wrong answer immediately and write down the rule or concept you missed.
04
Watch the common pitfalls
Chasing vocabulary breadth over depth and skipping the speaking/writing output that activates grammar differently from input.
05
The final 7 days
Stop learning new material and switch to consolidation: full timed mocks, a one-page sheet of high-frequency facts you keep slipping on, and a calm sleep schedule. Aim to be comfortably above the pass mark on mocks before test day.
06
Test-day logistics
Bring the exact ID you registered with. Expect separate timed sections (listening, reading, writing, speaking). Manage time per section strictly and do not leave any answer blank — there is no negative marking on most language tests.
