From practice to the real exam

01
Check your tier
Higher (grades 4–9) for stronger candidates; Foundation (grades 1–5) otherwise. Schools usually decide based on Year 10 mocks. Common boards: AQA 8300, Edexcel 1MA1, OCR J560.
02
Cover the spec
Six content areas: Number, Algebra, Ratio & Proportion, Geometry & Measures, Probability, Statistics. Spec is published free by each board.
03
Use past papers
Every board releases past papers, mark schemes, and examiner reports free on their website. Past papers are the single highest-yield resource.
04
Sit at school
You don't register yourself — your school enters you. Three papers (one non-calculator + two calculator), 1h 30m each, sat in May/June.
05
Resits
If you don't reach grade 4 in English/Maths you must continue resitting until age 18 or until you pass. November resit available.
