From practice to the real exam

01
Decide route
Combined Science (Trilogy on AQA / Synergy on AQA / Combined on Edexcel/OCR) = "Double Award" worth two GCSEs. Triple Science (separate Bio/Chem/Phy GCSEs) is the alternative for stronger candidates.
02
Cover all 3 subjects
Biology (Cells, Organisms, Infection, Bioenergetics, Homeostasis, Inheritance, Ecology), Chemistry (Atomic structure, Bonding, Quantitative, Chemical changes, Energy, Rate, Organic, Analysis, Atmosphere, Resources), Physics (Energy, Electricity, Particle model, Atomic structure, Forces, Waves, Magnetism).
03
Required practicals
AQA requires 16 specified practicals (6 Bio + 5 Chem + 5 Phy). Up to 15% of exam marks test understanding of these. Don't skip lab work.
04
Six papers
6 papers total (2 each of Bio/Chem/Phy), each 1h 15m, sat in May/June. Marks combined into TWO awarded grades (e.g. 6-6).
05
Maths skills count
~20% of Combined Science marks test mathematical skills (rearranging equations, percentages, ratios). Study the maths skills appendix.
